Info For Summer 2021 Virtual Camps

  • Camp sessions are one week long.
  • Camp day runs from 1:00 – 4:30
  • Camp day includes group instruction, private instruction, off-line practice time and breaks. We use the platform Zoom.
  • Different camps offered each week can create a customized summer experience that suits your child’s interests.
  • Each camp offering/topic focuses on learning essential skills and completing musical projects.
  • Groups will consist of 3-5 kids matched as best as possible by age and ability, and by instrument (when applicable).
  • Cost: $395 a week
  • Additional private lessons can be added at an additional cost.

Virtual Band Project (VBP)

    • This is an exciting new approach that allows kids to collaborate with other young musicians to create a music video of a live performance of a song.
    • Through a combination of band meetings, individual lessons and practice time, the teacher helps to guide the campers through the process of learning their song parts, honing their instrumental skills and video recording their performances.
    • Our staff will then edit the individual audio/video recordings into a video of the band performing the song together.
    •  Kids will be placed in groups of 3-5 players/singers
    • Additional $20 video editing fee applies.
    • Some of our bands have already completed a Virtual Band Project with great success! See below for an awesome example.

“The Virtual Band Project was terrific! We love the tune and the boys sound really good together! I can tell that the students and teacher put a lot of effort into this – you guys rock!”

– Walter, dad of 13-year-old band member

Recording Camp

In today’s world, a professional recording studio is often just a few clicks away. Musicians of all genres and experience levels can use ever-pervasive apps and software to write songs, demo arrangements, and create high-quality recordings at home.

Beginner-Intermediate: Garageband/Soundtrap

  • Students will use the free software programs Garageband and/or Soundtrap to learn the basics of music production and virtual recording. Soundtrap can be used on any device!
  • The skills learned can be applied to create any style of music, whether it be pop, rock, dance, hip-hop or anything in-between.
  • Topics covered include recording both virtual and real instruments (voice, guitar, etc), and how to use effects to find your unique musical voice. Students will create their own songs, beats, and productions.
  • No experience necessary. Students will be divided into groups based on their age and experience level.

Intermediate-Advanced: Logic Pro

  • Must have access to Logic Pro (Mac only) for this class.
  • Learn more extensive recording and production techniques, including EQ, compression, effect automation, and the basics of mixing and mastering.
  • Students will make their own songs. Skills learned can be applied to any style of music.
  • Some experience necessary. Students will be divided into groups based on their age and experience level.

If you are not sure where your child falls, we will be happy to discuss this with you.

Virtual Vocal Project

Anyone can be a multi-instrumentalist! In this specialized version of our Virtual Band Project, students will learn how to create a multi-part arrangement of a song all by themselves using the A Capella App on their phone. Students will learn how to sing in harmony with themselves, and get creative to create textures in their arrangements using ‘instruments’ from around the house. They will also learn how to optimize phone-recording techniques and create fun video content!  In this camp you will:

  • learn to sing in harmony
  • learn how to arrange a song
  • train your ear
  • optimize phone recording techniques
  • create fun video content

Songwriting Camp

Young songwriters will be put into groups based on age and work with a teacher to develop skills that explore the art of songwriting.

  • From lyric writing to coming up with a great chord progression, students will go through the process of writing an original song while also learning how to express themselves musically.
  • There is an opportunity for a young songwriter to continue to work on a song during another week by participating in a VBP or a recording camp.

The Reviews Are In

Creative Process

“Acquainting oneself with the arts outside of a traditional classroom environment gives kids more autonomy in the creative process, which yields results that can be applied away from the studio.”
– From “9 Visual and Performing Art Summer Camps in New York City” by Savannah Cox, in DNAinfo.

Next Level

“While Replay also functions as rehearsal space for adult musicians, Mare and John the lovely owners, are always on site so there is never a worry about safety or supervision. Coming to Replay Friday afternoons is the highlight of my son’s week. If you are looking for a safe happy place where your young musician can take his craft to the next level, you just found it!”

Remarkable Progress

“John combines his expertise in drumming and teaching with a great sense of humor, which results in high quality, fun lessons. The progress my daughter made was remarkable. John’s lessons are above and beyond teaching technique and providing a solid base to build upon: his experience as a performer and attention to individual needs allowed for lessons specifically geared to prepare for upcoming performances.”

Stephanie

Parent of John Rubin’s drum student
